Plate Reverb Vst Free

The dispersion of frequencies within a plate reverb plays a critical role in its sound. It is a major reason why a plate reverb sounds so distinctive, in particular with respect to the way it affects transients. A plate’s whip like onset is especially audible with percussive material, and is very well suited to guitars and vocals bestowing a unique and very desirable acoustic signature to the reverb.

This happens because sound travels through a metal plate at different speeds depending on its frequency. Similar in effect to a prism spatially splitting light into different colours, a plate temporally disperses sound by delaying different frequencies by different amounts. Low frequencies travel relatively slowly through the metal so are delayed more than the high frequencies.

Plate, a realistic simulation of plate reverb with the typical frequency dispersion and decay properties that give plate reverb the airy touch; Room, a beautiful and warm wooden room that gives a great sense of room without being obtrusive; Hall, a natural and gorgeous sounding hall. “OldSkoolVerb is a freeware algorithmic reverberation AU and VST plugin for professional music production applications. This plugin implements a kind of “classic” stereo reverb algorithm which is technically simple yet optimal. It also produces a very clear spatial image that blends well with the mix.

Simulating the delay’s rate of change with frequency is crucial to achieving a convincing plate dispersion tone. In a real plate dispersion is largely determined by its dimensions and pick-up positions, but other factors including the construction material, tension, mounting factors and so on all make a difference. The amount of simulated dispersion for each plate in Lustrous Plates is all controllable via a single ‘frequency dispersion’ parameter for quick and powerful results.

1. Knufinke SIR1 reverb plugin

More info and free download @ http://www.knufinke.de/sir/sir1.php

The well known free convolution VST reverb. Convolution reverb is a processing plugin that need an impulse response file. Impulse response is the response of a dynamic system when this system is feeded with an impulse. This gives (an approximation of) the transfer function of the system, the system can be a reverb unit, an open space, a room , etc..

  1. MUCH higher modal density than the first 4 modes. With the SIZE parameter set 100%, Aluminum can sound much more like a chamber than a plate. There is a slight metallic sound to a well-tuned plate, that the first 4 reverb modes have. Aluminum (and Copper & Unobtanium) have less of this metallic sound and can sound much clearer.
  2. Available for free until November 22th is Little Plate, a plate reverb plugin based on the hefty EMT 140 plate reverb unit introduced in 1957 by Wilhelm Franz at Germany’s Elektro-Mess-Technik. Best Plate Reverb ever Made Even in 2017, the EMT 140 is still regarded as the best plate reverb ever made.

The signal we send to the plugin is convolved with the transfer function of the system : the output is “like if we sent this signal in the modelized system)

The SIR1 reverb comes with two impulse response example, but of course you’ll need more than two impulse response files to cover a large variety of reverb (plate, spring reverb, cathedral, stadium, natural spaces, theater, small room, big room, etc..)

Magic of the internet ! you can find impulse response files ! and for free
Some nice free Impulse Response IR files can be found there :

This one is very special, it’s an algorithmic reverb processing VST, but with innovative and unusual algorithms. It tries to emulate the acoustic response of surfaces and materials. So you can try to have the sound of an acoustic space like water.
It can be great for creative effects, and make surreal ambience and great FX! With – nice -metalic sounds. Check the presets => some great presets with name that say it all : Alien Room, Airport, Metal Factory,
